Our story
How a promise to bring our people home became a hall. Murata Hall is not a commercial venue: it grew out of the savings of members who first came together to stand with one another in grief.

Bringing our people home
Murata Welfare Group began so that no member would face a bereavement alone. Together, members made sure their loved ones could be laid to rest in their ancestral land, rather than in a cemetery or a foreign place against the wishes of so many African families.

Saving side by side
Standing together in loss showed what members could do together in life. They began to save as one, with a shared aim: to invest jointly.

Side by side: the hall set out for a gathering The hall
A hall of our own
Those savings bought a plot, and on it the members built Murata Hall: a home for the group and a venue for the whole community.

Murata Hall today The land
Land in Voi
Members went on to buy land in Voi together and subdivide it among themselves, so every member holds a share of what the group has built.

Room to stay, food to share
The group hopes to acquire the plot next to the hall and add accommodation and catering, so families can gather, stay and eat in one place.
